Valley tense over strike rumours
Srinagar: Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack and apprehensions and fears among the local population over Article 35A of the Constitution, Kashmir has been gripped by panic. The people of the Valley have continued to hoard food and gasoline over the past couple of days.
With fresh supplies from outside the Valley having been disrupted due to the frequent closure of Jammu-Srinagar highway-the vital road-link between Kashmir and the rest of the country-for weather-related reasons, the shelves in shops particularly groceries have been stripped of essentials. Whatever is available in the market is being sold and purchased at exorbitant price.
Many automated teller machines in Srinagar and other major towns of the Valley have run out of cash as over the past three days people went for panic withdrawals in anticipation of prolonged curfews, strikes and violence.
