Now, GPS in auto tippers to track lifting of garbage
Bengaluru: If you are having a hard time disposing of your garbage, there's hope as the BBMP plans to soon to fit its auto-tipper vehicles with GPS to monitor them and make sure they are doing their job of collecting garbage door- to- door properly in the city.
The civic agency is developing a mobile phone application to help it keep track of the vehicles that will be coded. Once their code is entered in the app, it will display the location of the vehicle. Says a senior BBMP officer, "We have been receiving numerous complaints about garbage vehicles being irregular in door- to- door collection in residential areas. And so we decided to use GPS to keep track of them. We are working on the idea and have also invited a few private agencies, which can help us in developing the mobile phone application."
Once developed, the app will be given to the people, who will be able to use it to check the location of the vehicles in their area. They will also be able to log in their complaints if the vehicles don't turn up on a particular day, and the officials promise to take necessary action. "Every auto-tipper will be coded to keep a check on its location. This will help in regularising garbage collection in the city, and prevent dumping of garbage on the roadsides and footpaths," said the officer, adding that the BBMP could try out its plan in the next few months before implementing it on a wider scale.
