MP Pratap Simha demands proper probe

Pratap Simha said, Bandipur and Nagarahole forests have the highest number of tigers.

Mysuru: Mysuru Kodagu Congress MP Mr Pratap Simha has alleged that the forest fire in Bandipur was deliberately created and called for a detailed investigation.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, he said, “Bandipur and Nagarahole forests have the highest number of tigers. Despite several projects to protect the tiger, how is that they are not being protected? Vehicles have insurance but do these animals have it? Precautionary measures should be taken to prevent such incidents in future. Any fire should be extinguished using modern technology.

Only an investigation will reveal the cause of the fire,” he said. Chamarajnagar Congress MP R Druvanarayan said, “forest minister Satish Jarkiholi has held a aerial survey of Bandipur. He is holding a meeting with all officials in which even I am participating. We will discuss using modern technology to extinguish these fires” he said.

Meanwhile scion of the royal family of Mysuru Sri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on his official facebook page stated, “I am pained that over 20,000 acres of forest in Bandipur was burnt and several animals have lost their lives.” He appealed to the general public to join hands with the forest department and serve as volunteers to extinguish the fire at Bandipur.
