Bengaluru: Pattandur Agrahara lake catches fire, blaze doused
Bengaluru: It appears that lakes and lake bunds in the city will always be at risk of catching fire!
On Monday, Pattandur Agrahara lake near Jatti Jatti Dwarakamai on ECC road in Whitefield caught fire and fire tenders had to be summoned to douse the blaze. A few alert residents around Pattandur Agrahara lake noticed the fire and informed the fire force and emergency services and local police.
A resident of the area said that the lake has been neglected and the non-encroached area is used as a dumping ground for garbage. The surroundings of the lake keep catching fire during February and March.
Meanwhile, the first ever lake group meeting was held with Mayor Gangambike at the BBMP head office and the Mayor assured that a watchdog committee will be set up to ensure lakes are not encroached upon and are free from indiscriminate dumping. Further, she assured that the treated water would be utilised wherever possible to maintain greenery and the lake.
Lake group representatives discussed the condition of Hulimavu, Jakkur, Seegehalli and Doddanekkundi lakes. Mayor Gangambike directed officials to address issues related to storm water drains with the BWSSB. She assured that the lake group would be added to the BBMP’s WhatsApp group for smooth communication.
