Article 35 A is being described as a Muslim issue but Hindus of Jammu would not like any tinkering with it, Owaisi said.
Hyderabad: MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said Article 35A, which deals with special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir, was a delicate issue and that the Modi government must not keep the elections in mind but act rationally on these special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Owaisi said, “Elections will come and go but there is a need to act rationally on this very delicate issue.”
Article 35 A is being described as a “Muslim issue” but Hindus of Jammu would not like any tinkering with it, he said. BJP MLA has given a statement against revoking Article 35A, Mr Owaisi said. The Article provides special rights to “permanent residents” and places certain restrictions on non-residents. He said if the Centre tinkered with Article 35A, it would send a wrong message to Naga separatists with whom the government was holding talks regarding special rights. He stated that Article 370 had a permanent position in the Constitution.
