According to a fresh directive of the state police chief, the city police commissioners and district police chiefs should prepare a list of major criminal cases in which arrests and investigations were pending for quite some time. Steps like constitution of special investigation teams should be initiated to expedite theses cases. Progress reports of these cases should be sent to the police headquarters on a daily basis.

The range IGs were directed to review the investigations and give necessary advice.  A special system has been made at the police headquarters to constantly review and coordinate investigations into long pending cases. Mr. Behera said in a statement that the state police could solve many sensational cases without much delay and ensure maximum punishment to the accused, thereby having a good track record at the national level. In many cases, the accused were nabbed with the help of scientific evidence and there were even instances of accused being held from abroad, he said.
