Bhopal body against Lipstick Under My Burkha movie
Bhopal: A Muslim body on Saturday slammed the yet-to-be-released movie Lipstick Under My Burkha describing it “blasphemous” and issued a fatwa to boycott artists of the film.
The movie, entirely shot in Bhopal, has been denied certificate by the Censor board. Muslim Tyohar Committee, a body dealing with religious festivals of the community, also threatened to deny entry of filmmaker Prakash Jha, the producer of the all-women movie, into Bhopal.
“Burkha is inseparable part of our religion. Poor portrayal of burkha in the movie is an insult to our culture and religion”, the body said. The body is also planning legal action against all those involved in the movie. The movie has been entirely shot in Bhopal featuring locations like Bittan Market, New Market, Chowk Bazaar, and Platinum Plaza.
The film has won accolades globally. The movie has been part of official selection at Stockholm International Film Festival, Cairo International Film Festival, the POEF Black Nights Tallinn Film Festival. It is the only Indian entry out of 10 films in international competition at the Glasgow Film Festival.
