Row between UDF, CPM over KIAL jobs

The LDF accused that the Congress and the IUML were circulating messages among their workers to apply for maximum jobs.

KANNUR: A fresh row has erupted between the UDF and the LDF over jobs at the Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL). When the LDF accuses the ruling Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) of pushing their nominees and staged a protest march on the KIAL office here, the UDF lists jobs the CPM leaders secured for their children.

They include CPM leader Karayi Rajan’s daughter and the son of Mattannur Municipality chair Bhaskaran Master and former legislator K.K. Shailaja Teacher, who is an assistant engineer (electronics).

The LDF accused that the Congress and the IUML were circulating messages among their workers to apply for maximum jobs. “They are trying, with their influence in the government, to put their party functionaries in the important posts before the elections,” the LDF leaders said at a press meet.

“The authorities promised jobs to the displaced residents. But now there are plans to install Congress-IUML supporters.” The UDF leaders brushed aside the accusations and said if the LDF had a problem with the appointments, there should be an investigation in all postings in the past.

“Whenever a project comes, the CPM will oppose it and later when they come to power without any prick of conscience they exploit it like at the Pariyaram Medical College,” KPCC secretary Chandran Thillankery said.

Bhaskaran Master said his son had enough experience for the job and got through the proper channel without exerting any influence. “Mr Rajan’s daughter was working on contract, and now she is not there,” he said.
