THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cabinet on Thursday approved the draft MoU to be signed between the government run Rajiv Gandhi Academy of Aviation Technology and Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) to operate air ambulance services for organ transplantation programmes.
Air ambulance service had been mooted by the government earlier to ensure harvested organs could could be airlifted in time for transplantation. Though the government, KNOS and hospitals are managing to transport harvested organs by road, it is not a feasible option in case of long distance destination.
Cabinet approved first set of compensation package worth Rs 23.80 crore for fisherfolk living in the project area who will lose work days and means of livelihood because of construction activities related to Vizhinjam Sea Port.
The money will be spent on for disbursing compensation and rehabilitation schemes for the coastal population engaged in various fishing activities in and around project area.
To start the outpatient services and enhance other facilities, 31 posts have been sanctioned for the Cancer Institute and Research Centre being established in Kochi Medical College campus.

Cabinet also decided to allow staff who were part of the 39 panchayats which had been converted into municipalities, to continue in the panachayat services or opt for municipalities.
