White topping on ORR chokes traffic
Bengaluru: With white topping in full swing near Veeranna Palya, the traffic movement on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) has been brought to its knees for the past few days.
Travelling on ORR during peak hours has become a nightmare as a major portion of the road has been blocked.
Manjesh Kumar, an employee at the Manyata Tech Park for the last 10 years, said only in the first year he could commute without much hassle. Earlier, the traffic jams were because of flyover construction by BDA and now due to white topping.
Another employee Navaratan Singh said that on an average any commuter on this road spends at least two hours. "I developed respiratory problem two years ago due to inhaling of smoke and dust. Now the situation is no different. It takes at least two hours to reach office from home, which is 13 km away," he said.
Commuters lament that the ongoing white topping work was moving at a snail’s pace and their nightmare will be a long drawn one.
However, BBMP sources have expressed satisfaction over the pace of work. They, however, claim the delay was during to the curing period which is essential to ensure longevity of the road.
As the traffic volume on the ORR is huge, white topping is a challenging task, they added.
