Thoothukudi: 155 of 700 testify on Sterlite firing

Eighth enquiry session to start on Feb 18. It will be held for 4 days.

Thoothukudi: The one-man commission enquiring into the May 22 Thoothukudi riots, in which 13 persons were killed in a police firing, has enquired 155 witnesses so far, according to Arul Vadivel Shekar, counsel of the one-man commission.

Briefing the media about the course of the enquiry conducted by Justice Aruna Jagadeesan here on Friday, Arul Vadivel, said, “Seven sessions of enquiry have been completed and so far, 155 witnesses connected to the May 22 incident have been enquired. The eighth enquiry session will be conducted for four days from February 18. Around 700 men including police and revenue officials have been issued summons to appear before the commission.”

Police officers involved in the firing, revenue officials, reported to have given the order to shoot and doctors who performed autopsies, will be summoned after completing the enquiry with witnesses involved in the rioting, and the injured.
