Tamil Nadu: Elaborate security arrangements for Republic Day
Chennai: Chennai city police have made elaborate security arrangements in the state capital ahead of the 70th Republic Day celebrations on Saturday.
The security system has been made strengthened that around 20,000 security personnel are keeping a hawk’s eye to ensure a peaceful celebration of the day. Around 5,000 personnel will take care of Marina, where VIP’s will attend the republic day celebrations.Sources said, “From tonight police will begin checking vehicles. There will be checks at lodges and hotels to find out any suspicious activity. For tomorrow, important routes are chalked out for dignitaries to travel and policemen will be deployed along these stretches to prevent untoward incidents.”
For security reasons, visitors will not be allowed inside the airport. Governor Banwarilal Purohit will hoist the flag and he will be joined by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and other top officials. Parade and cultural activities have been planned at Marina beach. Around 60,000 people are expected to attend the function. A number of metal detectors is kept at checkpoints to screen the visitors.
As many as 1,000 traffic officials have been issued revolvers so that they can deal with any untoward incident amid heavy security arrangements across the city involving around 20,000 police officers.
Police said, “City police is on full alert. At commercial places such as T Nagar, Broadway and Koyambedu, police teams will be on vigil from today. We are going all out to carry out random searches based on the alert.”
President Medal recipients of Tamil Nadu police officers for Republic Day
On the occasion of the 70 thRepublic Day, the Government of India has announced the award of medals for 23 officers of Tamil Nadu Police.
Police officers are selected at all India level for their distinguished work and these medals are awarded twice a year on Republic Day and Independence Day. These medals are given taking into account overall performance, achievement and reputation.
Two officers, B.Govindasamy Deputy. Superintendent of Police SlU, Trichy and .E. Sorimuthu, Inspector of Police, Special Task Force, Erode have been awarded the President’s Police Medal for their Distinguished Service, said the press statement from the office of D.G.P Further, Twenty One officers have been awarded the Police Medal for their Meritorious Service.
