R Ramalinga Reddy made chairman of Congress poll panel

A senior leader said, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has formed such co-ordination committees for five states and two Union Territories.

Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader R Ramalinga Reddy, who initially rebelled against the party’s decision to induct new faces in the second round cabinet expansion last month, has been rewarded with key post of chairman of election coordination committee ahead of Lok Sabha polls, on Friday.

This is second high profile post to his family. His daughter Soumya Reddy, a first time MLA, was appointed general secretary of AICC women’s wing after she turned down the political secretary’s post as her father was not accommodated in the cabinet. A senior leader said, “Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has formed such co-ordination committees for five states and two Union Territories – Karnataka, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Chandigarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands – respectively.
