Hyderabad: Khan Lateef Khan shops to be vacated
Hyderabad: Monday’s fire accident at the Khan Lateef Khan (KLK) Estate building has exposed a series of violations. According to Khairatabad zonal commissioner Musharraf Faruqui, property owner Khan Lateef Khan, had illegally constructed one-and-a-half extra cellars and rented them out for commercial activities.
The corporation has sealed three unauthorised floors and decided to demolish unauthorised constructions in the illegal structures in the building.
According to Mr Faruqui, the corporation had asked shopkeepers to vacate the building not only to avoid further damage but also to facilitate demolition of the unauthorised constructions. Mr Faruqui said that the corporation could not take up demolition on Friday since a private cell company which has been maintaining servers in the cellars has sought a day to vacate the place.
The official said the property owners were asked to submit the building plan and layout plan by the next working day to learn about get an accurate fix on the number of violations in the plan.
On Wednesday, civic body officials alleged the building, did not have a trade licence and occupancy certificate. Officials said it did not have a permission for more than four floors. Civic officials were unaware if it had building permission.
The Khan Lateef Khan Estate owners in their official statement in the name of Dera Leasing and Construc-tion Company claimed on Friday that the construction had been completed after taking all approvals from the civic body.
Even though the Telangana fire and disaster services department in it report said the fire exits and staircases were blocked, the property owners claimed that due it was due to the efficient fire exit system in the building that 2,000 occupants were evacuated within minutes.
