Hyderabad: Girl forced to take road, run over

Girl was walking on road as hotel had dumped firewood on the footpath.

Hyderabad: The Chandrayangutta police booked cases against a hotel incharge and an RTC bus driver for killing a 17-year-old girl on Thursday. The girl was killed by the RTC bus as she was walking on the road, which was blocked by a log of woods in front of the hotel.

The victim was identified as Amatur Rahman Munazzah, an intermediate student residing at Omer Colony of Hafeez Baba Nagar in Chandrayangutta, police said.

The police placed two men identified as P. Sai Kiran, the RTC driver and Nayeem, the incharge of Spicy Bawarchi Hotel, under arrest.

The incident occurred 10 minutes after the girl left her home to go to college on Thursday morning, said Chandrayangutta police inspector, G. Koteshwar Rao, adding that, her mother Saleha Begum received a call from Zaheer Ahmed, her brother, who told her about the accident.

“Amatur left home at around 8.45 am and when she was passing by a Hotel on foot, she was forced to come on to the roads as the hotel had disposed logs of wood on the footpath. An RTC bus, being driven in a rash manner, rammed into her from the rear, causing her to trip and fall. The bus’ rear tyres then went over her. Her brother shifted her to a private hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment,” said the police official.

Based on a complaint from Ms Begum, cases were booked against the two men under Section 304 A (death by negligence) of IPC and they were placed under arrest. The dead body was shifted for post-mortem.

The CCTV video of the accident was shared on Twitter by people, who questioned the authorities about how hotels were allowed to dump things on the footpath.

GHMC director for enforcement, vigilance and disaster management, Viswajith Kampati replied, “I deeply regret the loss of life and we re-iterate our commitment towards the right to walk for all pedestrians. However, the incident is outside GHMC jurisdiction.” He said, “I was informed that it was in Panchayat limits. Will get it checked.” (sic)
