Visakhapatnam: The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is now getting the gene or DNA identification of the Asiatic Wild Dogs (Dhole) done in a non-invasive way through excrement (faeces) samples. The reason is that the zoo plans to release them into the wild in the Eastern Ghat as per IUCN guidelines for captive breeding and hence ascertained that their health condition and their survivability chances are necessary.
The poo of the zoo animals has turned out to be one of the most preferred ways for DNA analysis and check health condition as one does not need to capture the animals. The faeces samples are being sent to Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad. The DNA analysis will help zoo authorities segregate wild dogs into fit and weak or find out if the animal carries any diseases.
