Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Thursday distanced himself from the TS Wakf Board decision to clamp down on late night marriages.
Addressing mediapersons, Mr Mahmood Ali said the Wakf Board neither had the authority nor the right to decide on such matters. It was a violation of rights and he would not support it, he said.
The Wakf Board on Tuesday had decided at a meeting with officials of police department and Muslim leaders and scholars to put an end to late night marriages. The decision evoked mixed response from the community.
