Kakinada: Allegations are rife while mystery shrouds the perpetrators who destroyed newly-laid cement road at Mahalakshmi Nagar in Turangi, an adjacent village to Kakinada City.

The controversy over the incident has become a headache for revenue officials. Doubts abound over the individuals involved in the act.

According to some, family members of Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao (Kondababu) were responsible for the destruction.

According to sources, the Turangi Panchayat had laid the road at Mahalakhmi Nagar area at a cost of Rs.6 lakh. But followers of Mr Kondababu allegedly destroyed the road with proclainer. Panchayat officials lodged a complaint against the act with Indrapalem police. Sub-Inspector Ramarao said that a case was filed under Section 427 (Trespas and destruction of public property road). But he said that the accused have not been identified it. He also said that the Revenue Officials have to give report on it whether the land belongs to the government or private.

According to sources, Turangi Panchayat laid a cement road at Mahalakshmi Nagar with NREGS funds and Panchayat funds. The Kakinada Rural MLA Pilli Anantha Lakshmi had also given a nod to the work. But, after laying of the cement road, some persons, allegedly followers of Kakinada MLA Kondababu destroyed the road. They claimed that the site belongs to them.

However, this issue has become a blow for ruling Telugu Desam and it is alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrabbau Naidu was encouraging land grabbers. According to sources, some of the politicians including family members of Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao purchased lands at Mahalakshmi Nagar area. But, there were some disputes with each other in encroachment aspects. Some of the neighbouring farmers or land owners alleged that Mr Kondababu encroached the property and tried to grab it with his political influence. Mr Kondababu has, however, claimed that some of the survey numbers have been tampered with and he wants a report on it.

Meanwhile, Kakinada Rural MRO Mr Simhadri said that the road which was destroyed at Mahalakshmi Nagar belongs to the Revenue department as the land has been acquired for weaker sections.

Sources said that the District Collector Karthikeya Misra instructed the Revenue Officials to make a survey on it.
