Injustice to portray Hindu religion in poor light: BJP

BJP comes in defence of Kanchi mutt junior pontiff.

CHENNAI: The BJP finally came in defence of the junior Pontiff of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamy as protests against him swelled on Thursdayfor sitting through the Tamil Thaai Vazhthu during the release of Tamil-Sanskrit dictionary here recently.

Flaying those who demanded an apology from the acharya and also questioned his integrity, BJP state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan it was an “injustice to portray the Hindu religion in poor light as opposed to Tamil.”

Some people were creating the impression that Hindu religion has nothing to do with Tamil, but it is not so. The Kanchi Muth has already clarified that the Acharya had not slighted anyone during the recitation of the Tamil Thaai Vazhthu, but was engrossed in meditation when the anthem was played. Union minister of state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan who is touring Kanyakumari district, told reporters near Marthandam in the district that the seer has been giving equal importance to Tamil and had been striving for the cause of propagating the scriptures through Tamil language. "He had not insulted anyone. The Kanchi Math had clearly explained the position," he said and claimed the protests against the Acharya were "incited." "Everyone knows who is inciting the protests against the saint," he said in reply to a question.

Meanwhile, the @idhuhindudesam in its Facebook page posted a video of former CM M. Karunanidhi sitting through the anthem in 2010 during the World Classical Tamil conference.
