Kochi: The state government is considering appointment of a consultancy to study the development initiatives to be taken at busy Vytilla junction after completion of the flyover construction there, Public Works Department Minister G. Sudhakaran said on Thursday. He was replying to a submission moved in the state assembly by P. T. Thomas, MLA, demanding that the government revises the flyover design following charges that the current project was inadequate to resolve the traffic congestion there.
The PWD currently has plans to construct a subway at the junction from Kadavantra side to Trippunithura direction and back as second phase of the flyover project. Similarly there are plans to construct a subway to Vytilla Mobility hub from the junction. The consultancy, if appointed, will be asked to study about what further infrastructure requirements would be needed at the junction to decongest it, the minister said in his reply at the assembly. However, he made it clear that no alteration can be made to the ongoing flyover project there. Earlier, P. T. Thomas, MLA, said he had received complaints from various quarters including experts that the current flyover design won't serve any purpose.
As per the project, two separate three-lane flyovers are being constructed in the Aroor-Edapally direction along the NH-66. The length of the bridge and approach road together is 717 meters towards the Thiruvananthapuram side while that towards the Aluva side is 702.41 meters. The project work also includes setting up of two slip roads -- the 320-meter long for easy access to the Mobility Hub and the 375 -meter one to Aluva side, setting up of street light all along the two service roads and canal construction.
