Financial scam: Dubai cops give Binoy clean chit
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy on Thursday produced certificates from the Dubai police and Dubai prosecutions stating that there were no cases pending against him. The police clearance certificate issued to Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan through the Indian Consulate on Thursday (January 25) stated: "General department of criminal investigation certifies that the above mentioned individual is of good conduct and behaviour until the issuance date of this certificate. This certificate is issued upon the individual’s request and the department is not liable towards any legal rights of others.”
The certificate, which is valid for a period of three months, was issued by Salem Khalifa Ali Khalifa Alrumaithi, acting director, general department of criminal investigation. Another document produced by Kodiyeri's son from Dubai courts stated that there was no criminal case against him. No case has been filed against Binoy yet in the court. The documents were produced in support of Binoy’s statement on Wednesday on similar lines. He admitted that there were certain financial transactions with Rakhul Krishnan of JAAS Tourism Company in 2015.
Interestingly, in his statement, Binoy said that it was he who decided to take up the matter legally. “I gave a complaint in a Dubai court in 2017 and presented myself before the court and police and gave a statement. It was understood that only one million dirhams was to be returned. The court ordered 60,000 dirhams as fine and the case was scraped,” he added. The Dubai-based company had accused Binoy of cheating it to the tune of Rs 13 crore.
AAS Tourism LLC owner Hasan Ismaeel Abdulla Almarzooqui had sought the Indian government’s assistance for registering a formal complaint to extradite Binoy who absconded from Dubai after allegedly cheating his company and his partner of dirhams 7,000,000 (Rs 13 crore). The contents of the complaint were flashed by a section of news channels.
The company alleged that Binoy was a business partner of a Sharjah-based company and friend of Rakhul Krishna who was a partner of JAAS Tourism LLC which has been operating in Dubai since 2007. Mr Kodiyeri’s son allegedly borrowed 3,13,200 UAE dirhams (approximately Rs 53.61 lakh) on collateral security for purchasing an Audi car and 45 lakh dirhams for his business deals in India, UAE , Saudi Arabia and Nepal.
