Woman police battalion soon in Kerala

The battalion will be headquartered either in Thiruvananthapuram or in Kannur.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet on Wednesday decided to raise an all woman police battalion in the state. The battalion will be headquartered either in Thiruvananthapuram or in Kannur.

It will comprise a commandant, 20 women police havildars, 380 women constables, 5 drivers, 10 from the technical wing and other staff. The cabinet decision is part of the government’s plan to raise the strength of women in the state police force to 15 per cent in a phased manner.

The existing strength of women police in the state is around seven per cent.
The cabinet also decided to provide police security to Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited considering the importance of the project. A new police detachment wing has been sanctioned with a sub-inspector who will be posted on a redeployment basis.

The cabinet also decided to create posts of 30 civil police officers, 6 women civil police officers and 4 drivers. Appointment for sportspersons: As many as 74 sportspersons will be given appointment as havildars in the Kerala Armed Police under the sports quota. Appointments are being given for sportspersons from the following categories; athletics, basketball, football, judo, swimming, water polo and hand ball.

The cabinet sanctioned funds for the restoration of Enathu Bridge. The Local Government Commission was reconstituted with Dr C.P. Vinod as chairman and Dr N. Ramakanthan as member secretary.

The seasonal raw cashew coming to the farms of the agriculture department and SC/ST development department will be made available to CAPEX and the Kerala Cashew Development Corporation. Both the agencies have been given permission to procure raw cashew at market rates.

Managerial posts were created in the Kerala Road Safety Authority. Reemployment to be given for the physically challenged. The period of housing board one time settlement scheme has been extended till June 30, 2017.

Fresh posts to be created in eight coastal police stations. The cabinet decided to provide 22.77 areas of land in Thiruvananthapuram free of cost for the setting up of the Accountant General’s Office.
