Non-voters lose their rights: Telangana Governor

It's a citizen's responsibility to vote, which is paramount in parliamentary democracy: Mr Narasimhan

Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Wednesday said a person who does not vote has no right to make demands on the government.

Speaking at an event organised on the eve of National Voter’s Day at Ravindra Bharathi here on Wednesday, Mr Narasimhan said voting in an election is the right given to citizens by the Constitution and it is a citizen’s responsibility to vote, which is paramount in parliamentary democracy.

“If you don’t vote in elections, you have no right to demand the government to do this or that,” Mr Narasimhan said.

Supporting the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold simultaneous polls for Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, the Governor said it was a good idea to avoid elections in one part or the other of the country throughout the year.
