Kerala: Air Marshal Nair, fire staff get medals

Three fire and rescue service officials received the police medals for meritorious service.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even though none of the police officials from Kerala were selected for the Centre’s police medals owing to the delay in sending state’s recommendations, a senior Malayali defence officer received Param Vishisht Seva Medal and one officer in Fire and Rescue Service got the President's police medal for distinguished service.

Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Training Command Air Marshal S.R.K. Nair, who has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, is a native of Sasthamangalam in Thiruvananthapuram. He did his schooling at Loyola School here.

The awards were announced in connection with Republic Day. Station officer C. Ashok Kumar at Chenkalachoola fire station in Thiruvananthapuram received the President’s police medal for distinguished service.

Three fire and rescue service officials received the police medals for meritorious service. They are station officer Sabu Thomas of Ernakulam Club Road fire station, leading fireman Benny Mathew of Kunnamkulam fire station and fireman Noushad of Thrissur fire station.

Three police officials serving in various Central forces in Kerala also got Centre’s medals. CRPF inspectors V. Selvan serving in Peringom camp in Kannur and Saseendran Nair of CRPF camp in Thiruvananthapuram and BSF inspector at Thiruvanantapuram airport Kanakanath M.G. received the police medals for meritorious service.

CBI inspector K. Pradeep Kumar, who earlier served in CBI Kochi unit and probed many sensational cases including the Udayakumar custodial death case, also received police medals for meritorious service.

Meanwhile, 198 police officers, five officials of prisons department, 10 officials of Fire and Rescue Services won the Chief Minister's police medals.
