Hyderabad: Duo arrested for running fake statutory body

They were earlier arrested by Bengaluru police. CCS brought them to the city on PT warrant.

Hyderabad: The Central Crime Station arrested two notorious frauds who ran a fake statutory body called Bio Chemic Education Grant Commission, and cheated the correspondent of a paramedical college in the city by giving fake accreditation.

The duo, Santosh Lohar and Shyamlal Datta, had posed as Shyamal Dutta, V-C of a fictitious university, and cheated nearly 70 colleges and individuals across the country. They were earlier arrested by Bengaluru police. CCS brought them to the city on PT warrant. The CBI is also investigating a case against them.

Police said BEGC, which claims to be a statutory body, was deceiving colleges and doctors across India since seven years. Based in West Bengal's Nadia district, BEGC claims that it was established under the Indian Biochemic Act 2009, an Act that doesn't exist.

“The duo cheated one Mohammed Ali, correspondent of Sadhana Paramedical Vocational Junior College and President of Sanchar Health Society. They duped him promising to give accreditation to paramedical courses in his college and took Rs 13 lakh,” said a senior CCS official.
