Hyderabad: IPS officer C.V. Anand was on Friday named Hyderabad police commissioner, replacing Anjani Kumar, with the state government carrying out its much-awaited transfer of police officials. Several city police officials and district SPs were transferred.
Anjani Kumar, a 1990 batch IPS officer, who was recently promoted to DGP rank, was transferred as Director General of the Anti Corruption Bureau.
Anand, a 1991 batch IPS officer, is well-known in the city, having worked with the East and Central zones, and as commissioner of Cyberabad police. He also headed the city traffic wing. and was conferrred the President’s Gallantry Medal in 2002 for his action against Maoists.
He is known for streamlining the Ganesh immersion procession and tightening traffic management as well as starting the Lake Police. Anand has returned after a stint at the Centre as director of the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) until recently. He also had a stint with the Central Industrial Security Force.
In August 2016, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao appointed Anand as commissioner of civil supplies department, a post which is normally held by an IAS officer. He stayed in this post until 2018 when he went on central deputation. Anand was also Director, Excise.
Anand played a key role in checking irregularities in public distribution system, checked diversion of PDS stocks to black market by introducing GPS tracking system to trucks carrying stocks and checked errant rice millers who diverted stocks to black market. He also served as Cyberabad police commissioner till 2016.
The state government effected the transfer of 30 IPS officers late on Friday, who include 22 IPS officers and eight non-cadre IPS officers.
