Stir against atrocities on SC/ST women

The cases should be solved on humanitarian grounds and not on the basis of caste.

Hyderabad: Hundreds of students belonging to Madiga Students Federation (MSF) of India staged a protest today at Indira Chowk against the recent atrocities committed against the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) women and were demanding immediate justice.

“In our country over the last fifteen years, about 3.41 lakh women were sexually assaulted and only the accused in the Disha case were 'encountered.' Only in Disha's case, the police officials had the audacity to 'encounter' them. Was it because the accused were lower caste or did the police get any instructions from the government to do so?,” asked Manda Krishna Madiga, who participated in the protest on Tuesday.

Students representing MSF demanded that the government and the police should show equal responsibility in punishing the criminals of other sexual assaults as well, crimes that happened recently to the SC, ST and OBC women. The cases should be solved on humanitarian grounds and not on the basis of caste.

It was further said that on the same day of the Disha incident, Ms Mayuri (name changed) and a couple of days ahead, Ms Samatha, were brutally raped and killed, both of whom belong to the Scheduled Castes and backward classes. But there has been no progress in there cases and we demand speedy justice for them, the members demanded.
