Bhopal: A political row has erupted over transfer of Superintendent of Police of a Madhya Pradesh district a few hours after the FIR was filed against Guna BJP MP K.P. Yadav, who shot into limelight in the last Lok Sabha elections by defeating AICC general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia, for allegedly faking his income certificate.
Ashok Nagar district SP Pankaj Kumawat was shifted to police headquarters within 24 hours after the forgery case was registered against Yadav in the intervening night of December 22-23.
BJP spokesman here on Tuesday alleged that “the SP was transferred because of delay in registration of case against Yadav by police”.
Sources said the local sub-divisional magistrate had cancelled the OBC certificate of Yadav a week ago following a probe into a complaint alleging that Yadav had filed a false affidavit on his income to claim OBC certificate for his son. The SP, however, sought legal opinion of the public prosecutor on the matter before ordering to register a case against Yadav.
This had caused delay in filing FIR in the case, sources said.
However, a strong section of Congress was unhappy over the delay in filing FIR case, sources claimed.
The SP was made a sacrificial goat by the state government to placate a powerful leader of Congress by shifting him to the police headquarters, the BJP spokesman alleged.
