Kerala: Chief secretary sends MLA P V Anwar case to Election Commission

The MLA concealed details of assets of one of his two wives in the nomination for contesting the polls.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has referred a petition against LDF independent MLA P.V. Anwar to the election commission. The petition, alleging concealing asset details of one of his wives, could also lead to disqualification of the MLA if found to be true. According to sources, an individual had submitted a petition to the Governor against Anwar, who represents the Nilambur constituency. He alleged that the MLA concealed details of assets of one of his two wives in the nomination for contesting the polls. The Governor forwarded the petition to the government and the Chief Secretary forwarded it to the election commission.

Mr. Anwar was already caught up in a series of allegations, including violation of environment norms regarding his water theme park near Nilambur. The petition alleged that considerable investments in the water theme park were in the name of his second wife. Those were not mentioned in any of the nominations filed by the MLA in the elections he contested. According to sources, the election commission may seek evidences for the allegation from the petitioner, Malappuram native Shaji. Later Anvar may be summoned to seek clarifications.
