Walkathon in favour of steel flyover in Bengaluru

Around 300 residents, including school children, took part in the walkathon and sapling plantation programme.

Bengaluru: While the stay granted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the controversial steel flyover from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal is in force, members of Karnataka Abhivruddi Mattu Anustana Samiti carried out walkathon from Easteem Mall to Palace grounds on Saturday morning demanding the government to implement the project to decongest North Bengaluru. They also demanded for the Metro rail connectivity.

Around 300 residents, including school children, took part in the walkathon and sapling plantation programme.

Samiti President B.M. Devarajappa stressed that it was a peaceful walkathon aimed at decongesting North Bengaluru by attracting the attention of the government.

The residents here are countering the anti-steelflyover movement with a #steelflyoverbeku demand. The proposed steel flyover from Chalukya circle to Hebbal, now extended till Esteem Mall, is estimated to cost around Rs 2,100 crore. It is expected to reduce congestion towards the airport and help reduce pollution, Devarajappa said.
