KSRTC, BMTC aim for a cashless system
Bengaluru: KSRTC and BMTC are moving towards introducing cashless systems, said Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy after launching 25 100% biodiesel multi axle buses in the city on Saturday.
The cashless system will be introduced in a few places on a pilot basis. Based on the response of the people, it will be extended, he said.
Tenders for total biodiesel buses were floated two years ago. Though the price of buses has increased in the last two years, KSRTC has paid the old rate, he said.
BMTC will soon introduce 1,650 more new buses to ease pressure on the city roads and ensure hassle free service to the residents, he said.
The Supreme Court ruling on the safety of buses is applicable to BMTC buses hired by schools. “Schools should ensure that all the buses have safety measures in place,” he said, while referring to a BMTC bus, hired by a school for an excursion, that caught fire recently.
Mr Basavaraj Bulla, vice-chairman, Board of Directors, and Mr Rajender Kumar Kataria , Managing Director, KSRTC, were present.
The newly launched buses will operate on Bengaluru-Kundapura, Bengaluru-Bidar, Bengaluru-Tirupati and Bengaluru-Chennai routes. These buses have been retrofitted with biodiesel kits which allows these buses to on 100% biodiesel. The vehicles have been tested certified by TUV of Germany for best possible safety even in case of rollover. Provision of emergency indicating alarm system with integrated system of opening of passenger door has been introduced. The bus body has been built with fire retardant materials.
