Go digital, end black money menace, says BJP

BJP hopes to take this campaign on the lines of “NaMo tea stallâ€or “NaMo fish stallâ€that it had launched during the Lok Sabha elections.

Chennai: Though people still struggle due to the cap on withdrawal limit notwithstanding the long queues in front of ATMs whenever they are loaded and have gone virtually “cashless” due to demonetisation drive, the state unit of the BJP has initiated a campaign urging the people to switch to “cashless transaction” and join Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to curb black money.

The saffron party hopes to take this campaign on the lines of “NaMo tea stall” or “NaMo fish stall” that it had launched during the Lok Sabha elections. Arguing that the people are yet to get used to the online payment options, a BJP senior said, “Many of us use debit or credit cards to make the payment while on a trip. We find this convenient when we are on a tour. But we should bring this into practice in our daily life and start paying all the bills, insurance policies, etc., and pay for the groceries using our cards.”

Perhaps, aiming to make Modi’s initiative a success, union minister of state for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan who has been traveling hectically, discussed with bank officials in Monday Market and Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district to ease the problems of the people.

While distributing handouts highlighting the importance of cashless transactions, he urged the people to stem black money flow. “You could use various modes of cashless transactions like online transactions or use debit or credit cards,” he explained.

Admitting that there had been some difficulties for the people due to ban on '500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, the minister said in Puducherry that “People are however bearing the pain for the larger gain to the nation and for its economic development.”
