YSRC slams minister for neglecting GGH' at Nellore

The legislator said the shortage of medical officers was severe with 84 out of 197 allotted to the hospital.

Nellore: Nellore city legislator, Dr. Anilkumar Yadav, squarely blamed the urban development minister, P Narayana, for the sad state of affairs in the Government General Hospital (GGH) at Nellore.

During a visit to the GGH on Saturday, the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress (YSRC) legislator alleged that Narayana did not take any initiative to fill vacant posts or recall the large number of doctors working in other hospitals on deputation though they were posted at Nellore.

Rebuking Narayana over his claims of developing Nellore, he demanded that the minister explain the reasons for not filling the vacant posts in the GGH. “The minister is trying to weaken the GGH to ensure patronage for his own Narayana General Hospital. Will he keep quiet like this if same situation arises in his hospital?” Anilkumar questioned.

Anilkumar had raised a hue and cry over lack of medical and paramedical staff in the hospital during his visit 20 days back and lamented over the plight of people coming to the hospital in the absence doctors in various departments.

The legislator said the shortage of medical officers was severe with 84 out of 197 allotted to the hospital. Among the 84, 21 were working on deputation in the neighbouring districts.

He advised the superintendent of the GGH to address the shortage and submitted a representation on the issue to the collector after his last visit to the hospital.

“The superintendent told me today that he had sent a communication to higher officials to send back the doctors on deputation. The representatives of the doctors association informed me that the functioning of several departments was hampered because of lack of medical officers,” Anilkumar said, while requesting the superintendent to ensure proper attention to the patients.

He suggested that Narayana conduct a review in the hospital and address all issues. Referring to reports on the shifting of a cancer hospital sanctioned for Nellore to Visakapatnam, he demanded that the minister come out with details of the project worth Rs 48 crore.

Anilkumar slammed Narayana for knocking the doors of the Chief Minister for the party ticket instead of seeking his intervention to sort out the issues pertaining to the GGH.
