Visakhapatnam: RTC driver ends life, staff protest
Visakhapatnam: Holding depot manager M. Divya of being responsible for the suicide of a bus driver, APSRTC employees on Saturday staged a protest in front of her office at Simhachalam in Vizag city.
According to police, Ch Nageswara Rao consumed pesticide on Friday, allegedly due to harassment from the depot manager. Before taking the extreme step, he had written on his hand that the depot manager was responsible for his death.
Sources said that Rao was driving the bus that hit a car and left it damaged. The owner of the car sent photographs of the accident to the depot manager seeking action against Rao.
Though there was no evidence of harassment by the depot manager, Rao consumed the pesticide in front of the depot manager office on Friday. Rao breathed his last while undergoing treatment in KG Hospital.
Expressing anguish over the incident, the staff of the Simhachalam bus depot on Saturday staged a protest by boycotting duties and demanded action against Divya. They also raised slogans against the depot manager.
As the situation turned tense, the ACP (West) L. Arjun deployed police personnel to the Simhachalam depot to prevent any untoward incidents.
