Vijayawada: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s reiteration that the Congress would give Special Category Status to AP and fulfil bifurcation assurances has increased the hopes of the Congress in recapturing public support in the state.
AP Congress leaders claimed that their party had promised 14 times that party would extend SCS and implement the bifurcation assurances. APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy welcomed Mrs Gandhi’s reiteration of the promise, and stated that the people of AP saw the Congress as the only party capable of fulfilling bifurcation assurances.
He noted that Mrs Gandhi had first written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 2, 2014, to implement the assurances including SCS and had made a similar demand in the Lok Sabha. He also listed out the many times that Congress leaders had demanded implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act assurances.
