Madras High Court: Cops can book Kamal Haasan if cognisable offence made out
Chennai: The Madras High Court has directed the police to register a complaint, if a cognisable offence is made out, against Kamal Haasan for his alleged remarks against Hindus. Justice M.S. Ramesh gave the directive on a petition filed by G. Devarajan, an advocate clerk, which sought a direction to the police to register his complaint against Kamal Haasan.
According to Devarajan, actor Kamal Haasan was contributing a series in the weekly magazine Ananda Vikatan. However, in the article published in the edition dated November 8, 2017, Kamal Haasan had commented that earlier there has been no Hindu right wing violence and by arguments and debates instigated the others to indulge in violence. Since this kind of old conspiracy could no longer succeed, they had started doing something different by force. They also started violent activities. They can no longer challenge, saying whether anybody could point out a single “Hindu terrorist”. To this extent, the terrorism has spread. Those proclaiming themselves as Hindu terrorist cannot claim victory or any advancement. Truth alone will triumph was the saying earlier. But now, it was violence that prevails and belief in non-violence will be replaced and the people around will become terrorist, Kamal Haasan had added. Every one born as a Hindu necessarily has faith in the religion and the attempt to stamp them as a terrorist, thereby portraying a Hindu as a terrorist, Kamal Haasan was trying to put the stamp of terrorist on every Hindu, he added.
He said Kamal Haasan was indulging in a tirade against Hindus and the religion as that of a terrorist and this preaching has to be stopped forthwith. He should understand that no religion preaches violence, but basically promotes good conduct. But the actor appears to divide the peace loving Tamil population on the basis of religion creating a myth that the Hinduism was a religion of terrorist. The actor by his articles was injecting poisonous comments to create ill-will and hatred among the peace-loving citizens. His tirade against Hindus and secularism was instigating violence among the citizens and therefore, before much damage was caused, it has been just and necessary to take action against him. Therefore, he gave a complaint to the commissioner of police against Kamal Haasan. There were complaints before the Thousand Lights and Teynampet police stations. But so far no action was taken, he added.
