High alert ahead of Metro; 2,000 police officials to be part of security arrangements

Officials to check hotels, lodges, malls, hospitals along Metro route.

HYDERABAD: With central intelligence agencies issuing an alert ahead of the proposed inauguration of the Hyderabad Metro Rail on November 28, the police are focusing on increasing vigilance at hotels and guest houses in order to prevent the occurrence of any terror attacks.

B. Sumathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, said, “All buildings where people can stay for brief periods that are in close proximity to the metro rail route are being enumerated. This includes lodges, hotels and offices.

Awareness programme will be conducted for the managers of these premises.”
There are about seven upscale hotels along the Metro Rail route from Nagole to Miyapur. Officials have also identified five hospitals along this stretch which may temporarily provide people shelter. Apart from this, there are shopping malls and eateries where people can remain for hours.

“Our teams will visit these places and check if the the CCTV cameras are in place,” said Vishwa Prasad, the DCP of Madhapur.

The police have started checking various lodges along the metro route in Secunderabad.

The railway police have also been asked to remain alert as the metro rail line crosses the railway tracks at Secunderabad Station.
