Water level in 91 reservoirs dips to 67 per cent: govt

Last week, the stock available in these reservoirs was 107.449 BCM. The total capacity of the reservoirs is 157.799 BCM.

New Delhi: Water level in 91 major reservoirs in the country has plunged to 67 per cent of their total capacity from 68 per cent last week, the government said on Friday.

According to Water Resources Ministry, 105.209 billion cubic metre (BCM) of water was available in these reservoirs for the week ending on November 24.

The stock was 125 per cent of the storage reported during the corresponding period last year, while it is 97 per cent of the decadal average, the Ministry said in a statement.

Last week, the stock available in these reservoirs was 107.449 BCM. The total capacity of the reservoirs is 157.799 BCM.

The states which have recorded less storage vis--vis the corresponding period last year are Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, while the water levels in reservoirs in Uttarakhand reported equivalent levels to as those last year.

Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Karnataka have reported better stock compared to last year.
