Papers thrown at Lok Sabha Speaker's podium
New Delhi: In an unprecedented and shocking incident on Thursday, Samajwadi Party MP Akshay Yadav tore some papers and threw them at Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s podium, who after expressing grave displeasure, warned the young lawmaker terming his conduct as a “disorderly act”.
Mr Akshay Yadav is the first time Member of Parliament from Firoz-abad. He is the son of Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav and nephew of Samajwadi Party president Mula-yam Singh Yadav.
This conduct of Yadav is a “gross violation of the norms of standards and etiquette laid down under Rules and Conventions of the House”, she said, adding “this conduct is not proper on the part of the member and also for the dignity and prestige of the House”.
“I therefore, while, expressing my grave displeasure over the conduct of Shri Yadav warn him to refrain from such from disorderly act in future,” she added.
Under Rule 349 (xxi) of Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha when it is in session, a member shall not tear off documents in the House in protest.
The incident occurred when the Lok Sabha met in the morning amid pandemonium with a determined Opposition again pitching for a discussion on the demonetisation issue under adjournment motion. Following the incident, the House was adjourned for an hour.
When it met again at 12 pm, the Speaker adjourned it for the day within five minutes as the opposition continued its protest demanding discussion on the demonetisation issue.
She also rejected several adjournment notices given by members including Kamal Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dushyant Chautala and Dharmendra Yadav.
As several members from Congress, Trinamul, SP and other parties trooped into the Well raising anti-government slogans, Ms Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.
