New Delhi: Assembly by-polls to three seats in West Bengal and one in Uttarakhand will be held on November 25, the Election Commission announced on Friday.

The by-polls in the two states were not held earlier on the request of the state governments. While the local body elections were on in Uttarakhand, the West Bengal government had cited the Durga Puja festivities to postpone the by-polls.

While polling will take place on November 25, counting of votes will be taken up on November 28, the commission said.

The Pithoragarh seat in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand fell vacant following the death of sitting MLA Prakash Pant. Pant, who held the finance and parliamentary affairs ministries in Trivendra Singh Rawat cabinet, died battling cancer at a hospital in Houston, US, in June.

Bypolls to 51 Assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies were held on October 21.
