Kochi: Income-tax notices for Jacob Thomas
Kochi: The income-tax department has put up notices at the Kochi and Thiruvanant-hapuram residences of former director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau Jacob Thomas attaching 50.33 acres of his land at Viruda Nagar in Tamil Nadu.
According to the I-T department, Mr. Thomas had bought 50.33 acres of land at Viruda Nagar in 2001 in two deals.
But Mr. Thomas has not included the property in his assets. The deals were conducted in the name of the director of a Kochi-based firm named Isra Agrotech Systems Pvt Ltd although the property belonged to Mr. Thomas.
The department has found that Mr. Thomas is not a director of the company. Although the department had served notices on Mr. Thomas, he did not receive them. The IT officials reached the residence registered in the name of Mr. Thomas's wife at Kadavanthara here on Wednesday and pasted the notice as directed by income tax deputy commissioner (Chennai unit) K. Vishakh. The action has been taken under the provisions of Benami Property Transaction Act.
