Cabinet increases compensation for damaged houses.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase the compensation amount for families whose houses were destroyed in the devastating floods in August.

Houses which suffered 75 per cent would be considered as completely damaged. The total amount for each house would be around Rs 4 lakh including contribution from the chief minister's relief fund.

As per the Central Government's norms the compensation for completely damaged houses in high range areas is Rs 1,01,900 and Rs 95,100 in plains from disaster response fund. The damaged houses in high range areas will receive compensation of Rs 2,98,100 and for plains Rs 3,04,900. The houses which suffered 16 to 29 per cent damage would get Rs 60,000, 30 to 59 per cent Rs 1,25,000 and 60-74 per cent damage Rs 2,50,000.

After the revised compensation, the amount to be utilised from the chief minister's relief fund for housing sector would cross Rs 1,000 crore. From the national disaster response fund only Rs 450 crore is being spent for compensation. The decision to utilise more funds from the CMDRF was taken considering the massive destruction. More than 2.43 lakh families will benefit from the revised compensation normal. Those constructing houses on their own would get Rs 4 lakh.

The cabinet decided to amend the registration act of 1908 to ensure that the fee charged while registering mortgage of title deeds are the same as those when mortgage is taken out or cancelled. The fee charged should be 0.1 percent of the guarantee amount. However, as per the existing provision people have to pay two percent to take out or cancel the mortgage. This was causing hardships to people.In case if one or more members of a family require treatment for deadly diseases, they will be given a maximum of Rs 3 lakh form the chief minister's relief fund.

Twelve posts sanctioned for K R Narayanan memorial Government Speciality Hospital at Uzhavoor in Kottayam. The Cabinet decided to post Biswanath Sinha as SC/ST Department principal secretary. He will continue to hold the additional charge of Parliamentary Affairs Department.

Dr V.Venu was posted as Principal Secretary, Forest and Wildlife Department. He will continue to hold the charge of other departments.
