Hyderabad: Despite a ban ordered by the Supreme Court, online shops are still taking orders to give ‘doorstep’ delivery to customers.
Apart from ordering a nationwide window of two hours, between 8 pm and 10 pm, to burst crackers during Diwali, the Supreme Court laid down noise and smoke emission levels and banned the sale of firecrackers online through e-commerce portals.
“The ‘online’ market will face a problem due to the judgement. We will be giving them some time to take down the websites and take action if they are still accepting,” said an official from the Rachakonda Police.
Mr Hitesh M., an environmentalist, said that since the number of vendors would be reduced, with only licenced sellers permitted to sell crackers and online sellers being barred, the number of crackers available for purchase would be less. This would lead to less pollution, he said.
