Hyderabad: Cantonment area garbage lifting turns irregular
Hyderabad: As the door-to-door collection of garbage is being run badly in the Cantonment area, there has been a rise in the irregular garbage dumping points in areas like Vasavinagar, Padmaja Colony, and Kakaguda. Residents said these garbage points were leading to insect and dog menace in the locality.
Mr G. Padmanabham, resident of Vasavinagar, said residents were facing health issues due to the garbage point coming up in the area. “The SCB installed the garbage point last year, and residents living nearby had to bear the foul smell.”
He said the SCB was not fogging the areas, leading to an increase in mosquitoes. “We are not able to understand what the SCB is doing for residents. There are no proper roads, drainage system or drinking water supply. Cantonment residents are being punished with the lack of basic amenities.”
Residents said the GHMC was more responsive in solving problems whereas the SCB was lethargic. Other colonies in the Cantonment faced similar problems, they said,
Repeated complaints to the authorities have gone in vain. Mr Telukunta Sathish Gupta, president of Vasavinagar Colony, said they had given a representation to SCB Chief Executive Officer S.V. R. Chandrashekar Rao a month ago, regarding the irregular garbage point but there was no action.
In order to have the garbage point removed, some residents hired an operator to collect garbage from all houses. Despite this, the SCB installed new garbage points. This was worsening the situation and leading to the number of dogs increasing.
