Vijayawada: The Congress party has welcomed the court verdict on the village Panchayat elections. AP Congress official spokesperson, Kolanukonda Sivaji alleged that the Telugu Desam had issued GO 90 to suppress the local panchayat, but the court had done justice by ordering the ruling TD government to conduct elections.
He demanded that the TD government should conduct panchayat elections treating the results as a referendum to TD rule. He said that the term of panchayat sarpanches had ended on August 1, but the TD government did not initiate any measures to conduct the elections. He claimed that the people of Andhra Pradesh were up in arms against the TD government and they would display their anguish against the TD with their votes. Hence, the TD had appointed special officers to village panchayats.
Mr Sivaji said that the Congress party had gained huge support from the people in the past few years and they trusted Congress as the only party that would be able to give the state Special Category Status. He claimed that Congress’s house-to-house campaign had yielded good results and hoped that the Congress would prove its capacity by winning the panchayat elections. He urged the TD government to honour the court verdict and to conduct panchayat elections immediately.
