Tamil Nadu cops refuse to file usury case even after victim's complaint

Sudalaiyandi is said to have taken a loan of Rs 2,000 from Gomathi Sankar five months ago at a weekly interest of Rs 200 for 13 weeks.

Tirunelveli: Yet another daily wager from the Tenkasi region in Tirunelveli district lodged a usury complaint with the district collector on Tuesday.

Kutty alias Sudalaiyandi (38) son of Muthaiah of Sundarapandipuram near Tenkasi came along with his wife Maharasi and two children to petition the district collector, seeking protection from a usurer, Gomathi Sankar, son of Subramanya Pandian of Tenkasi.

Sudalaiyandi is said to have taken a loan of Rs 2,000 from Gomathi Sankar five months ago at a weekly interest of Rs 200 for 13 weeks.

Having properly paid the interest for 7 weeks, Sudalayandi decided to go to Kerala in search of a job as he did not have a proper job in Tenkasi.
Before leaving for Kerala, Sudalayandi informed Gomathi Sankar about his plan.

Gomathi Sankar however grabbed his moped worth around Rs 5,000 along with the vehicle documents. Returning home after three months on September, Sudalayandi paid the aggregated weekly interest of Rs 2,400 for the three months. The usurer is said to have demanded an additional Rs 2,400 as penalty interest for the delayed payment.

As Sudalayandi refused to pay this, Gomathi Sankar attacked him,
injuring Sudalayandi in the stomach. Sambavar Vada Karai police registered a case against Gomathi Sankar for attacking Sudalaiyandi, but were deliberately refusing to file a usury case.
