Hyderabad: 1.3 lakh ineligible houses got sops

During the Congress government, 4.49 lakh houses have got funding for construction.

Hyderabad: As many as 1.29 lakh houses, whose construction were funded by the previous Congress government under the prevalent housing scheme, were found to be ineligible to receive the state finance, according to the state housing department.

During the Congress government, 4.49 lakh houses have got funding for construction. After the TRS to power, the state government ordered district collectors to re-verify underprogress residences so the financial support is given only to the geninue beneficiaries.

Following this, the collectors formed revenue committees for the re-verification. Out of 4.49 lakh houses sanctioned by the Congress government, the committees found that only 2.10 lakh houses were eligible for the state support, while 1.29 houses were ineligible. Nearly 74,215 houses in the state are yet to be verified.

The TRS had alleged that several irregularities occ-urred in the housing sch-eme during the Congress government and called it was a big scam involving crores of rupees.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself said in the Assembly that an inquiry would be ordered to expose the housing scam and vowed to bring to book people’s representatives, officials and middlemen involved in alleged irregularities. As on June 2, 2014, 4,49,252 houses were halted pending completion.

Accordingly the revenue teams have verified these houses under previous housing schemes and submitted the eligible list for release of payments.

According to officials in the housing department, the government did not take any action against any one relating to ineligible houses sanctioned by the previous Congress government.
