Hyderabad: Exorbitant fees charged by private schools have been a constant matter of contention for parents in the city.

Now students in private schools have to pay almost eight times more for the secondary school certificate examination fees.

While the school fees set by the government is '125, a few private schools are demanding up to ' 2,000. Ramanjeet Singh, a parent, said, “Many parents allege that schools are demanding too much money. Exam fees are not supposed to be high. There is already too much of confusion regarding the restarting of the board exams in tenth standard for CBSE. So, parents think that the fee structure has been hiked.”

Parents’ associations have decided to submit a letter to the district educational officer, demanding action. When parents raised the issue with schools, the authorities said that the money was for processing fees and extra coaching classes. This comes at a time when parents have asked the government to take action on school fee hike.

“How can the fees of coaching classes be included in the examination fees? There should be a check on the fee structures,” said Ahmed A, a parent.
