14-year-old loses leg, KSRTC conductor, driver blamed
Mysuru: A 14-year-old boy lost his left leg after a KSRTC bus ran over it when he fell down trying to climb the bus at the KSRTC bus-stand here on Monday evening. It is alleged that the accident occurred because of the negligence of the bus conductor and driver.
The victim, Ullekh, is a class 9 student and younger son of Mr Puttaswamy, a cable operator in Bannur.
Mr Puttaswamy said, “After the school, Ullekh takes a bus from the KSRTC bus station to reach Bannur. He has a bus pass. After finishing school on Monday, he reached Platform No. 1 of the bus stand around 4.45 pm. Ullekh tried to catch a bus (KA 9 F 5277). Even as he was trying to climb, the conductor who noticed that the boys were pass-holders reportedly asked the bus driver to move. Ullekh fell and his left leg got stuck under the rear wheel of the bus. People around shouted the driver to stop, but he did not and Ullekh's leg was crushed. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors have removed nearly one-and-a-half feet of his leg. He is a brilliant student, and wanted to be an IPS officer."
"A complaint of negligence has been registered against both the conductor and driver at the Devaraja traffic police station. I will fight against this discrimination of KSRTC staff against student pass holders. I will ensure that such incidents don't happen again," Mr Puttaswamy said.
Traffic DCP Vikram Aamte said, "We are recording the statements of the parents on Wednesday. We will investigate and if we find fault as alleged by the parents, we will book cases against the conductor and driver."
