Vijayawada/Nellore: Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths on Monday unearthed huge properties amassed by Nellore RTO Nerella Purnachandar Rao during simultaneous searches conducted at nine places across the state, including Nellore, Guntur, Ongole and Vijayawada. ACB sleuths found huge stash of gold and silver, besides documents relating to properties suspected to have been amassed by Purnachandar Rao at his resident at Old Club road in Guntur.
Around one kg gold, 60 kg silver, Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and LIC bonds were recovered. ACB joint-director Nagendra Kumar said properties worth Rs 3 crore were recovered so far and valuation was still on. Along with Purnachandar Rao’s residence, residences of his relatives and friends were also searched on information of benami properties.
Raids were conducted at Vinukonda town of Guntur district at four places. His brother, two of his friends and his driver’s houses were searched. The house of a relative of Purnachandar Rao was also searched at Vijayawada but nothing was found, said DSP Gopal Krishna. In Nellore, ACB officials led by inspector Sivakumar Reddy and a team from Kadapa raided the houses of suspected agents of the RTO, Abdur Rahim living in Nellore and Imran at Gudur.
However, the ACB officials could not carry out the search in the residence of the RTO in Nellore as they found it locked. They sealed the house as well as his chamber in the transport office after scanning the place and eliciting information on pending files.
